Bosnia and Herzegovina: Sarajevo

Today I got two postcards from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

One of them shows a panoramic view of Sarajevo. Sarajevo is the capital and largest city of Bosnia and Herzegovina. On 28th June 1914 Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated in Sarajevo by Gavrilo Princip, a member of Young Bosnia. The assassination caused World War I, which began one month later. In 1984 the city hosted the Olympic Winter Games and between 1992 and 1996 Sarajevo suffered the longest siege of a city in the history of modern warfare.

Stamp:

Thank You very much Marcel!
