Germany: Battle of the Nations

On Wednesday I got four postcards: one from Germany, one from Malaysia, one from India and one from Slovenia.

The card from Germany is a Chronicle of the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig. The Battle of Nations was the decisive battle of the war of liberation against the foreign rule from France. Between the 16th and 19th October 1813 soldiers from Austria, Prussia, Russia and Sweden fought against Napoleon's Grand Armée. All together 520000 soldiers took part in the battle, of which 90000 lost their life. After the battle there was a high danger of epidemic. The Battle of the Nations was then the largest battle in human history. Hundred years later the Monument to the Battle of the Nations was built.
I bought this card when I recently visited Leipzig.

With a matching stamp:
100 years of the Monument to the Battle of the Nations in Leipzig (issued 10-10-2013)

I also bought postcards showing a map of the battle, a scene from the end of the battle and Napoleon.
