Germany: Hanseatic League

Today I got two postcards from Germany.

One of them shows a map of the Hanseatic trading network. The Hanseatic League was founded in the 12th century as an union of West and North German merchants. In the 14th century around 200 cities joined the league, which already had a major political influence.
You can read more about the Hanseatic League on my newly created History blog.

With a matching stamp:
650 years Hanseatic League (issued 07-09-2006)
It is a joint issue with Sweden.

Thank You very much Sabine!
