Germany: History of Saarburg

On Tuesday I got eight postcards: four from Germany, one from Hong Kong, one from the United Arab Emirates and two from Italy.

One of the cards from Germany is the Chronicle card of Saarburg. In the 10th century the Counts of Luxembourg founded a castle in today's Saarburg which was in 964 already owned by Archbishop-Electors of Trier. The castle became one of the most important of its kind in the Electorate of Trier and stayed it until the end of the electorate in 1794. The village, that was founded near the Saarburg Castle, got the town privileges in 1291. Since the 17th century Saarburg was known for the bell foundry. In 1814 became Saarburg a part of the Prussian Rhine Province.

The card was sent from the Postcrossing Meet-up in Trier.
Stamp:
Dresden (from set of two) (issued 03-04-2014)

Thank You very much Hanko!
