Singapore: Elgin Bridge

On Monday I got three postcards: one from Turkey and two from Singapore.

One of the cards from Singapore shows the Elgin Bridge. The Bridge links the Downtown Core to the Singapore River Planning Area and is the oldest bridge across the Singapore River. It is named after Lord Elgin (Governor-General of India).

Singapore: Yen Yueh Lou and Pin Yun Ko

On Monday I got three postcards: one from Turkey and two from Singapore.

One of the cards from Singapore shows two towers in Singapore. They are called Yen Yueh Lou and Pin Yun Ko and are reproductions of a tower in China.

Turkey: Troy

On Monday I got three postcards: two from Singapore and one from Turkey.

The card from Turkey shows Troy. Troy has 4000 years of history and is one of the most famous historical site in the World. It was rediscovered by the famous German archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann in 1870. It is famous for the Trojan war. Since 1998 it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

On Monday I got a cover from Gibraltar and inside were my ordered stamps.
One of them was the Year of the Snake stamp from Gibraltar (issued 30-01-2013).

Germany: New Town Hall in Hanover

On Tuesday I got two postcards: one from Finland and one from Germany.

The card shows the New Town Hall in Lower Saxony's capital Hanover. My mum sent the card to me when she was there.

Finland: My first view card with Postcrossing stamp

On Tuesday I got two postcards: one from Germany and a really great one from Finland.

I do not know what the card from Finland shows, but it looks so nice and it is also my first view card from Finland. The backside of the card is very special. On it are the signatures of all participants of the postcrossing Meet-up in Hämeenlinna and ...

USA: White House

On Monday I got four postcards: three from the USA and one from Canada.

One of the cards from the USA shows the White House.
The White House was originally constructed between 1792 and 1800, but had to be reconstructed after being burned during the War of 1812. Since John Adams it is the home of every president of the USA.

Norway: Oslo

Yesterday was a very nice surprise postcard in my letterbox. It was my first postcard from Norway and what is even better the card shows Norway's capital Oslo.

Norway is a country in Scandinavia bordering on Sweden, Russia and Finland. Norway is a member of the UN and of the OECD. Norway's head of state is King Harald V.

Oslo is not only the capital of Norway but also Norway's largest city.
The card shows the Oslo Harbour with Akerhus Fortress, the City Hall (where the Nobel Peace Prices are lent) and Aker Brygge.

On the backside of the postcard is also a map of Norway.

Sweden: Skärhamn

On Friday I got a postcard from Sweden.

The postcard shows the locality Skärhamn. The Nordic Watercolour Museum is a tourist attraction in Skärhamn.

The postcard shows the Gunung Api on one of the Banda Islands. It is an active volcano.

South Korea: Tapsa and the Stone Pagodas of Mount Mai

On Monday I got a postcard from India and my first five postcards from South Korea.

One of the cards from South Korea shows Tapsa and the Stone Pagodas of Mount Mai. The temple was built by a single Buddhist layman called Yi Gap Yong (1860–1957) who came to Mount Mai to meditate. He built it without mortar.

South Korea: Hwaeomsa

On Monday I got a postcard from India and my first five postcards from South Korea.

One of the cards from South Korea shows Hwaeomsa. Hwaeomsa is a head temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism.

South Korea: Haeinsa

On Monday I got a postcard from India and my first five postcards from South Korea.

One of the cards from South Korea shows Haeinsa. Haeinsa is a head temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism and one of the Three Jewel Temples of Korea.
It is mostly known for treasuring the Tripitaka Koreana. The Tripitaka Koreana are one of the oldest Buddhist scriptures that still exist. Since 1995 it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

South Korea: Mireukjeon in the Geumsansa

On Monday I got a postcard from India and my first five postcards from South Korea.

One of the cards from South Korea shows the Mireukjeon. It is a part of the Geumsansa which is a head temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism.

South Korea: Hwaseong Fortress

This is the 100th post in my blog! Thank You all of you for sending me all this nice postcards and covers with so many nice stamps!

On Monday I got a postcard from India and my first five postcards from South Korea.

South Korea (officially: Republic of Korea) is a country in the southern part of the Korean Peninsula bordering on North Korea. South Korea is a member of the UN and of the OECD. The capital of South Korea is Seoul.

One of the cards shows the North-East Pavilion called Banghwasuryujeong in the Hwaseong Fortress. It is above the pond Yongyeon being surrounded by a small garden. 
The Hwaseong Fortress is the centre of Suwon (the provincial capital of Gyeonggi-do). The Fortress in surrounded by walls and it was built in the end of the 18th century at the behest of King Jeongjo (1752-1800). It was damaged in the Korean War and after the restoration it was designated as UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.
